It seems that everyone likes to throw around success/failure percentages when it comes to home-based businesses in Direct Sales, Network Marketing and Multi-Level Marketing. The most often heard are; "Only 3% of the people are making a successful full time income," or "97% fail to make it in this industry." I am not certain what the actual percentages are but I would guess that the 3% / 97% consensus is probably not too far from accurate.
If you talk to those who do make a full time living they will tell you that this is an easy business and they are not lying or trying to be deceitful. For them it is easy. You see, they follow a simple system and they have mastered it. But why then do 97% fail if the systems are so simple to follow?
What most people don't realize is that the words simple and easy don't equate. They are certainly similar and in some instances can be synonymous but you must be careful. Working this industry is simple. Most of the systems are simple to follow. But easy, not necessarily.
I am not trying to dissuade anyone from becoming involved in this arena, on the contrary. I honestly think that anyone can be successful and that it wouldn't be too difficult to increase those success rates. The problem that this industry faces is that too many people get involved because they think it is easy rather than simple. They think they can sit back and let things take care of themselves. After two months without any success, they give up. They may not quit, but for all intensive purposes they have given up. They have failed and have given that 97% a stronghold.
So many seem to get focused on the dream of working from home and having this opulent lifestyle but they fail to remember the last word in the phrase "home-based business". This is a business that requires time and attention. As you become successful it will become easier to do (as is true of most things). At the same time though, it is a business that needs to be worked. Most people could follow these simple steps until success became easy if they just didn't give up so easliy.
So what have we learned? This is a simple industry. Follow a few simple steps and you are up-and-running. Don't take things for granted. Just because you have "plugged in" to the system don't think that things are just supposed to start happening for you. You must act. You may find it difficult at first, but stay the course. Success will come and as you become more proficient so will the ease with which your success abounds.
